On April 22, 2025, a guest lecture on the topic “Humanity on the Way to Solar Energy” was held for students of the Classical Professional College of SumDU pursuing the educational-professional bachelor’s degree in the following specialties: 171 Electronics (educational-professional program “Electronic Information Systems”), 133 Industrial Engineering (educational-professional program “Industrial Engineering”), 073 Management (educational-professional program “Organization Management”); and the educational-professional junior bachelor’s degree in the following specialties: 171 Electronics (educational-professional program “Production of Electronic and Electrical Automation Devices”), 123 Computer Engineering (educational-professional program “Maintenance of Computer Systems and Networks”), 192 Construction and Civil Engineering (educational-professional programs “Construction, Operation and Repair of Highways and Airfields,” “Construction, Maintenance and Repair of Railway Tracks,” “Construction and Operation of Buildings and Structures”), 193 Geodesy and Land Management (educational-professional program “Land Management”), 073 Management (educational-professional program “Production Organization”), 133 Industrial Engineering (educational-professional program “Material Processing Technology on Machine Tools and Automatic Lines”), 015 “Professional Education. Construction,” specialization 015.31 “Professional Education. Construction and Welding” (educational-professional program “Professional Education. Construction and Welding”), 017 Physical Culture and Sports (educational-professional program “Physical Culture and Sports”).
The lecture was delivered by Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Professor, Head of the Department of Electronics and Computer Engineering of Sumy State University, renowned science popularizer Anatolii OPANASIUK.
Leading expert in the field of renewable energy Prof. A.S. Opanasiuk began with a review of the current global energy situation, emphasizing the growing need for clean and sustainable energy sources. He skillfully drew parallels between the depletion of traditional fuels and the limitless potential of sunlight.
The lecture then delved into the chronological development of solar energy use, from the simplest implementations to modern highly efficient photovoltaic systems. It was interesting to learn about key scientific discoveries and engineering solutions that have shaped solar energy as we know it today.
Special attention was given to technological breakthroughs in recent years: perovskite solar cells, flexible and transparent solar panels, etc. The lecturer clearly demonstrated how these innovations open new horizons for the use of solar energy in various fields of science and technology.
The guest lecture by Professor Anatolii OPANASIUK turned out to be extremely interesting and informative for students, lecturers, and staff. According to the feedback from listeners, their understanding of the current state of research in the field of physical processes occurring during the conversion of light energy into electrical energy has significantly expanded.
