The Scientific Council of Sumy State University has reviewed the results of the competitive selection for research and development projects to be implemented in 2026. In accordance with orders No. 22 and No. 23 of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine dated January 9, 2026, the council highlighted the success of the systematic efforts carried out throughout 2025 in preparing applications under the new Regulations approved by Order No. 947. In the main competition, the university submitted 42 applications, doubling the previous year’s figure. Following the selection process, 27 projects were named winners with a total annual funding volume of 35.4 million UAH. This achievement secured Sumy State University’s first-place ranking among Ukrainian higher education institutions in terms of the number of winning projects. The overall efficiency rate for the main competition reached 64%. Specifically, 11 projects received high expert scores, and an additional 16 were recommended for funding through supplementary funds allocated for universities in frontline regions. Among these successful initiatives is the research project “Film heterojunctions based on new oxide, tetrahedrite, and chalcogenide materials deposited via vacuum-free chemical methods for solar energy and thermoelectric needs,” funded by the general fund of the state budget of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine for the 2026–2028 period with a funding volume of 4.5 million UAH under the supervision of Principal Investigator A.S. Opanasyuk.

High performance was also demonstrated in the competition for young scientists’ projects, where 11 applications were submitted. Nine projects emerged as winners with a funding volume of 11.4 million UAH, achieving an efficiency rate of 82% compared to the national average of only 37%. By this metric, the university shares first place in Ukraine with the Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute. Taking into account 14 ongoing projects from the main competition and 13 from the youth competition, Sumy State University will implement a total of 63 state-funded projects in 2026, with representatives of the Department of Electronics and Computer Technology being actively involved in their realization.
