On March 31, 2026, a guest lecture titled “He who produces chips, rules the world: a journey into 2nm transistor technology” was held in a hybrid format for students pursuing a Professional Junior Bachelor’s degree in specialties F7 “Computer Engineering” and G5 “Electronics, Electrical Communications, Instrumentation, and Radio Engineering” at the Classical Vocational College of SumDU. More than 50 participants attended the lecture.
The lecturer was Anatoliy OPANASIUK, Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Professor, Head of the Department of Electronics and Computer Technology at Sumy State University, and a well-known popularizer of science.
During the lecture, participants learned about the key stages of electronics development — from the first computing devices to modern integrated circuits and nanotechnology. Special attention was paid to the role of semiconductor materials, particularly silicon, in creating modern electronic components, as well as the operating principles of diodes and transistors and the manufacturing of integrated circuits using advanced technologies.
The lecturer emphasized that modern microelectronics is the foundation of the digital economy, and chip production effectively determines the technological leadership of states and corporations. The structure of the global semiconductor industry was discussed, including developers, material and equipment manufacturers, as well as IC design companies.
A special emphasis was placed on current trends in electronics, specifically the transition to nanoelectronics and the creation of transistors with 2nm process nodes. Such achievements open new possibilities for increasing the performance of computing systems and developing innovative technologies.
The event sparked significant interest among students and faculty, contributing to a deeper understanding of solid-state electronics and increasing motivation for research and development activities.
