On December 26, Sumy State University was visited by Academician of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Head of the North-Eastern Scientific Center of NASU, Volodymyr Semynozhenko. During the meeting with the university administration and researchers, the results of the development of Ukrainian science in 2023 were summarized. According to the academician, despite the challenges of wartime, Ukrainian science continues to demonstrate impressive achievements.
Special attention was given by Volodymyr Semynozhenko to the contribution of Sumy State University to the advancement of scientific activities, emphasizing the importance of research conducted at the university. According to Vice-Rector for Research, Anatolii Chornous, the university has been increasing its funding for scientific projects annually: while in 2022 this amount exceeded 127 million UAH, in 2023, it already surpassed 150 million UAH.
During the official ceremony, the team of Sumy State University was awarded the Honorary Diploma of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine for a significant contribution to the development of science and innovation. High awards were also presented to individual university scientists for their outstanding achievements.
The staff of the Department of Electronics and Computer Engineering (ECT) of the Faculty of Electronics and Information Technologies takes pride in the fact that its head, Anatolii Serhiiovych Opanasiuk, was recognized with a personal award from the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine for “Training the Next Generation of Scientists” and his significant contribution to the development of research in electronics and innovative technologies. This distinction reaffirms the high scientific level of his academic school, where 13 Ph.D. (Candidate of Physical and Mathematical Sciences) dissertations have been successfully defended. Three of these researchers were recognized as “Best Young Scientists of SumDU” in the “Mathematical and Natural Sciences” category and subsequently received scholarships from the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine (Ph.D. student M.S. Yermakov and Associate Professors O.A. Dobrozhan and O.V. Diachenko). One of them later became a department head, while another was appointed Deputy Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine.
This recognition serves as yet another confirmation of the high scientific potential of the Department of Electronics and Computer Engineering, which is actively engaged in addressing pressing issues in modern science and technology. Thanks to the dedicated efforts of its researchers, the department not only enhances the international reputation of the university but also makes a significant contribution to strengthening Ukraine’s innovative potential.
Science and innovation remain the foundation of our nation’s resilience, and the team of the Department of Electronics and Computer Engineering of SumDU continues to work for the advancement of Ukrainian science and its future prosperity.
