On January 31, Sumy State University held a workforce conference, where Rector Vasyl Karpusha summarized the results of 2024 and outlined the key objectives for 2025.
SumDU has strengthened its position among Ukraine’s leading universities, reaffirming its leadership in the Times Higher Education ranking. For the first time in its history, the university entered the subject ranking for “Medicine and Healthcare”, while maintaining its top positions in Social Sciences, Business, Engineering, and Physical Sciences.
One of the major achievements was the increase in research funding to 154 million UAH, a record figure for the university. A significant contribution was made by international partners, who allocated 100 million UAH for scientific projects, scholarships, and software procurement.
Among the key initiatives are the thermal modernization of university buildings, funded by the European Investment Bank, and plans to build a solar power station, aimed at enhancing the university’s energy independence.
Student enrollment at all levels of education has been successful, and active extracurricular engagement has led to major athletic achievements. SumDU students secured first place in the Winter and second place in the Summer All-Ukrainian Universiades, as well as victories in international competitions.
The Rector emphasized that despite the challenges of wartime, including a missile strike on a university building, SumDU continues to grow and develop. He expressed his gratitude to every employee for their dedication and stressed that the university’s future success depends on the unity of its team.
