Meeting of the Academic Council of SumDU: Recommendations for the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine Scholarship for Young Scientists

On September 12, a meeting of the Academic Council of Sumy State University took place, during which the issue of recommending candidates for the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine Scholarship for young scientists was discussed. The council was presented with the cases of 17 candidates for the award, including five doctors of science, eleven candidates of science and PhDs, and one graduate student. All candidates were ranked according to the methodology of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine. The ranking included indicators such as the total number of published articles, the number of articles in journals indexed by the Scopus scientific database, the Hirsch index, the number of citations of their works, and more.

Among the candidates were two representatives from the Department of Electronics and Computer Engineering: Oleksii Dyachenko (associate professor) and Maksym Yermakov (graduate student). It should be noted that Dyachenko ranked 7th overall, while Yermakov ranked 13th. These are very respectable results, considering they were competing with five doctors of science, some of whom, being economists (Faculty of Economics and Management), publish up to 30 articles per year in Scopus-indexed journals. Notably, the success of Maksym Yermakov, a graduate student in the Department of Electronics and Computer Engineering (age 26), stands out. He was the only person without an academic degree on the list, and he is significantly younger than the majority of the other candidates (average age 32-33).

All candidates were supported by the university’s Academic Council, and their cases were sent to the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, where a final decision will be made. Let’s wish the representatives of the department success in receiving this award, as publishing high-level articles in the field of electronics and materials science for electronics is considerably more challenging than in economics or law.

It is also worth noting that a few years ago, a similar award was received by associate professor Oleksandr Dobrozhan from the Department of Electronics and Computer Engineering, who continues to work at the department, consistently achieving high scientific results.
