On November 21, 2025, a long-awaited celebration — Telecommunications Day — took place at the Department of Electronics and Computer Engineering. This day of the specialty is joyfully honored by students preparing to become telecommunications professionals, graduates and lecturers of the department, as well as employer experts. On this very day, all participants of the festive event come together to share their ideas on the development of the specialty, improvement of the organization of professional training within the educational program “Network and Internet Technologies,” to understand the subtleties of the profession and the secrets of a future successful career.
At the beginning of the celebration, a welcoming speech was delivered by the guarantor of the educational program “Network and Internet Technologies,” Associate Professor Olha Volodymyrivna Berezhna. In her address, O.V. Berezhna emphasized that the Department of Electronics and Computer Engineering practices both a fundamental and an innovative approach to training communication specialists — future telecommunications professionals — and highlighted the exciting prospects for the development of the telecommunications industry in Ukraine and worldwide. She was followed by the Dean of the Faculty of Electronics and Information Technologies, Associate Professor Yurii Yuriiovych Volk, who wished success to the students of the department and expressed confidence in the effectiveness of the team of lecturers and students involved in the development of this specialty at the university. After that, the Head of the graduating department, Professor Anatolii Serhiiovych Opanasiuk, gave a detailed account of the department’s achievements in training telecommunications specialists and outlined the goals that serve as guidelines for the teaching staff in order to make students’ learning even more effective and engaging.
Oleksandr Volodymyrovych Rot-Serov, Regional Manager of the international company PortaOne, shared his memories of studying at the department. According to the expert, for the successful operation of the company, in addition to fundamental knowledge of telecommunications technologies and programming skills, a strong desire for new knowledge, teamwork skills, and the ability to adapt to modern technologies and the fast pace of life are essential. He suggested that lecturers and students expand the educational process by including courses from fields related to telecommunications — artificial intelligence, electronic systems, and unmanned systems. A graduate of the department, Maksym Oleksandrovych Hermes, Leading Engineer of the Sumy branch of Ukrtelecom JSC, introduced students to the technical intricacies of the communications profession, the specifics of fiber-optic installation technologies, and the future of fiber-optic communication lines.
Congratulations on Telecommunications Day were also extended by Professor O.A. Borysenko, Associate Professor I.A. Kulyk, and the main participants of the celebration — students of groups TK-21, TK-31, and other groups studying at the department. The presentations by student groups enrolled in the educational program “Network and Internet Technologies” were memorable, vibrant, and engaging.
With special warmth, the celebration of Telecommunications Day highlighted first-year students who had just joined the community of the Department of Electronics and Computer Engineering — freshmen planning to study under the educational program “Network and Internet Technologies,” as well as first-year students admitted to the promising specialty F7 “Computer Engineering,” for which the first intake of students at Sumy State University took place in 2025. After taking the Freshman’s Oath of the Department of Electronics and Computer Engineering, all first-year students were awarded keychains with the department’s emblem, independently manufactured in the departmental research laboratory of computer systems and 3D printing, which can be obtained at the department in room ET-225.
Special thanks should also be extended to the organizers of Telecommunications Day — Associate Professor Olha Volodymyrivna Berezhna, Senior Lecturer Tetiana Oleksandrivna Protasova, PhD students of the department Roman Vitaliiovych Vasyliev and Bohdan Oleksandrovych Boiko, as well as the host of the event, student of group TK-21 Vadym Mykolaiovych Dehtiarenko, for their efforts, creative ideas, and inspiration, thanks to which a festive atmosphere and joyful mood prevailed both in the studio and in the online audiences.
We wish good luck to the first-year students of the department, inspiration in their studies, and a strong drive toward academic achievements!
